Dr Severinac chose plastic surgery through the typical medical school evolution. Initially he thought he would be a pediatrician. In his 3rd year of medical school’s first rotation, Pediatrics was satisfying but something was missing. His second rotation was in General Surgery in which he immediately realized that using his hands in a meaningful and creative way was going to be a central part of his profession. His third rotation was in Plastic Surgery and his first case was the repair of a babies cleft lip and palate. It all came together and he pursued training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Family Practice
Dr. Severinac is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has re credentialed in 2007 and 2017 with written exam scores in the 98 percentile. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only board certification you should be seeking when selecting a plastic surgeon. Don’t be fooled by others offering plastic or cosmetic surgery and claim “Board Certified”. Their certification may actually be in a general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiovascular surgery, family medicine or even dentistry/oral surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is made up of board certified plastic surgeons and guide the highest ethical and surgical standards.

He then completed his General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency training in Grand Rapids, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Charlotte, North Carolina, emphasizing Craniofacial Surgery. He began practicing Plastic surgery in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1995.
Reconstructive Surgery
We perform reconstructive surgery on children from Burkina Faso, Guana, the Ivory Coast, and Uganda. These sweet children are brought from areas of the world were no treatment is available. They would most likely die of starvation if not infanticide when they are born into the primitive cultures found in the deep bush of Africa. Some of the stories of parents trying to save their babies by hiding them from these customs are harrowing.
