Overall

Our experience with this company was so terrible that I really wish I could give this company no stars.  The owner, Jeff Clanton, is an unprofessional bully who does not follow through on his promises.

We hired JC Painting &  Remodeling to paint the exterior of our house.  We also needed repair and carpentry work.  After touting his "30 +" years of experience, he gave us a bid of $1000 for repairs.  After starting the work, he came back saying that a lot more repair work was needed.  It ultimately ended up costing $2,000 over the bid!  Now, we completely understand that things come up in the course of performing work, but it seems like someone with his experience should have caught some of the "additional" items that needed to be addressed -- especially if those additional items almost triple the cost.  In short, he did a horrible job of setting expectations because the $2K over was a huge surprise.

He was also a very difficult person to work with.  He was really defensive anytime we asked questions about anything.  For example, he got really defensive when we pointed out areas that needed to be retouched -- even though he asked us to look around for places that needed retouching! Anyone who has ever hired painters, and anyone who has ever painted professionally, knows that there will likely be touch ups. I've worked with painters before, and I have never had a painter become so aggressive after pointing out areas that may have been missed or weren't completed as agreed. Instead of explaining why he felt a touch up wasn't necessary, he just started raising his voice, claiming that he is the expert. He even yelled at my mom, who is an older lady. He was so rude and condescending to her. Any professional should be able to explain why they are doing what they are doing in a way that is easily understood by the customer.

This company already has a BBB complaint against them, claiming a lot of the same issues that we experienced (e.g., Jeff, the owner, being rude, defensive, and aggressive). I would never use them again and would caution anyone looking to give them a try.

Overall

Jeff Clanton was incredibly unprofessional when he was working on my mothers home. She hired him to paint her house. When he was done she asked if he was going to come back to do a second coat. He said he would and would return the next morning to do it. When he arrived, half an hour late, he got upset and told my mother that there was nothing wrong with his work and didnt need to do a second coat. He started yelling at her, angry that she questioned his work. He screamed at her that he had 35 years of painting experience, which i believe but obviously he's had no experience in customer service. My mother is 68 years old, she lives alone and was terrified. She ran back into her home and shut the door completely frightened. I too work in a service based industry so i understand his frustration. However, it is his job to educate his customers. He should have explained to her to help her understand why it didn't need a second coat instead of getting defensive and angry. He also should not have agreed to do the second coat without assessing the work first. It's very upsetting that this man treated my mother this way. I would steer clear of hiring him, the paint job might be ok, but he obviously lacks professionalism and respect for others.
