Dental Examination
At your first dental visit either Dr. Toole or one of our dental hygienists will complete a full periodontal exam in order to determine what type of hygiene care you need. This exam will include evaluation of your x-rays, a visual assessment of your teeth and recording the pocket depths around your teeth. A periodontal probe (small dental instrument) is gently used to measure the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and the gums. The depth of a healthy sulcus measures three millimeters or less and does not bleed. The periodontal probe helps indicate if pockets are deeper than three millimeters. As periodontal disease progresses, the pockets usually get deeper.

X-rays
Our office uses digital dental x-rays and electronic record keeping and charting. New patients can complete all of their new patient forms and registration with a smart phone or PC.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Composite resins, or tooth-colored fillings, provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small- to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth. They are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural.
Veneers
Whitening works best on yellow stained teeth. Gray teeth are more difficult to whiten, or may not respond to treatment. Such cases may require porcelain veneers to achieve the desired result.
Crowns
Sometimes teeth become fractured by trauma, grinding or biting on hard objects. In other cases, fillings, crowns and other restorative devices can be damaged or fall out of the mouth completely. If there is severe pain, it is essential to make an appointment with us as quickly as possible. The pain caused by dental emergencies almost always gets worse without treatment, and dental issues can seriously jeopardize physical health.
Bridges
Fixed dental bridges require addition cleaning under the pontic (missing tooth). Since this “false tooth” is connected to the adjacent teeth a bridge threader is used to thread floss under it to remove plaque. These are readily available at most pharmacies. We would be happy to demonstrate how to use them for you.
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
The dentist will try to replace the tooth in its natural socket. In some cases, the tooth will reattach, but if the inner part (nerve) of the tooth is seriously damaged, root canal therapy may be necessary.

Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing (Deep Cleaning): Scaling and root planing is the process of removing all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and below the gumline, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. Your hygienist will then begin root planing, smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth. To minimize any discomfort or pain, your provider numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic to numb the area.

Dentures
Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic (acrylic) bases. Depending on your needs, Dr. Toole will design a partial denture for you. A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking.

Placement of dental implants usually does not create a great deal of pain. However, carefully reading and following these instructions will help ensure smooth and easy healing.
