AC went out on one of the hottest days of the summer while I was at work, leaving my wife and two small children in the heat. I'm a firefighter so I can't just leave work . I contacted Summers and ask them to send a technician to my house. My wife said that the technician that came out was mostly just in his truck on his phone. When I was able to speak with him via her cellphone, he informed me that my equipment was crappy, someone did a horrible job installing it and that there was a leak in the line between the outside unit and the inside unit. The technician quoted me $1,500 to $1,700 how to repair the line but stated that my system still wouldn't work properly. According to him, the inside air handler was one ton smaller than the outside condensing unit. He said he could recharge the system and get it working but he wasn't sure how long it would last. ( Fair enough) I asked him to go ahead and do that because I was going to contact the original installer and have them come out and fix what they screwed up. The technician did something (my wife has no idea what), turned the system on and left. He did not wait to make sure it was cooling, which it was not. Upon doing some online research, I discovered the inside air handler and outside condenser were compatible parts and appropriately-sized. I made sure I was home when the original installer came back out to my house. He showed me the leak in the system which was a very obvious one on a valve on the outside unit. That technician replaced the valve on on the outside unit, recharged the system and then stayed to make sure the system was operating correctly. I contacted Summers with my concerns and requested the charges that were put on my card that day be returned, nothing more. I even offered to let them send a technician out to verify the information I had given them but they chose not to send the technician out and did not return all of the charges that were put on my card. I would not recommend.
