"Although I had remarkably successful back surgery over 20 years ago, my central core was weak from the prior injuries. Then about 8 months ago, I threw out my back while working in my yard. I had extreme pain, leg drop; daytime activity was cumbersome at best and I could not sleep comfortably. Knowing the symptoms, I assumed I would require neurosurgery again. The surgeon recommended physical therapy as a first step. Prior experiences with PT made me skeptical. I have had chronic back problems for 24 years, with disks impeding on my spinal cord. The treatment I received gave me an understanding of my weaknesses and how I could overcome them. They explained what I had to do and why. Within about ten weeks of supervised therapy and an exercise program, my pain and stiffness is gone. I am now using the Wellness Program to continue building overall core strength and cardio. They analyzed my needs and helped me understand that with the proper guidance, I am stronger, more active, and have mobility that I thought I lost twenty years ago."

Derrick May is a licensed Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS). He graduated from Gettysburg College with a HES/ATC degree, and then from The University of Rhode Island with a MS in PT. Derrick is very hands-on, using a variety of manual therapy techniques, including the MDT, Maitland, Mulligan, Jones, Paris, and AFS (MFR) philosophies, to maximize patient outcomes. Derrick is also certified in the application of the ASTYM system for the treatment of chronic muscle, tendon, ligament and fascial dysfunctions. Derrick is married with three children and lives in the Larchmont area.
