I dined at Bottom of the Bay Seafood on Friday, August 1, 2014. I ordered a dozen crabs and a pound of shrimp. When the server Ronda delivered my food to my table, I noticed a horrible smell coming from the crabs. I asked the server if the crabs were fresh because this restaurant is known for selling reheated crabs that are as much as 2 weeks old. She went to the back to talk to the cook. A few minutes later, she returned to my table and said they were fresh. I reluctantly took her at her word and attempted to eat the crabs. Each crab I opened smelled of a strong spoiled ammonia smell. They smelled so bad, I couldn't even eat them. I went and got my server Ronda and told her I wanted to cancel my order. She said she had to go speak to her manager. She returned to the table, stating there wasn't a manager on duty and refused to cancel my order. Out of disappointment, I promptly asked for my check. When I received my check, the total was $98.29 food total, $5.89 tax, and $14.74 gratuity making the check total $118.92. I protested that the gratuity should be removed due to poor service, the servers rude attitude, and the fact I didn't eat the food because it was not edible. The server began to argue with me stating she would call the police if I didn't pay the entire check. As i was standing at the dining room cash register, I heard the server calling me profane names like this cheap mother f***er wants a free meal and doesn't want to pay gratuity. She went onto complain to customers who were sitting in the bar area that "cheap, lazy mother fu**ers" like me should stay home and eat if they don't want to pay. This restaurant should be investigated for selling such poor, spoiled food. The few bites I did take of one of the crabs caused me to vomit and I had diarrhea for days. I was also unable to eat for three days after this horrific dining experience. This was the worst dining experience ever. Dine at your own risk!!!

a local favorite. highly recommended by these out of state texas crab lovers. plain and simple. served on butcher paper, all the crabs you want to eat for $32.00/person. on the other hand, if you would rather have a mixed seafood platter(23.00). enough for two large or three regular eaters(and then carry some home for lunch tomarrow) NOT FANCY, JUST GOOD FOOD. take your big boy appetite to this place. wine, beer available. waits from 10 to 60 minutes at the dinner hour. almost all seafood available as carryout. beer by the 6 pak and on draft by the pitcher, a great family crab house, try it you will like it!!

Best crabs and service!

Bottom of the Bay Seafood has the best steamed crabs. The the seasoning they use is the best I have ever had. Great service too.

We found it by accident while visiting from Michigan in 2004. My wife is a seafood nut and really enjoys the" therapy" afforded by smashing the crabs with a mallet. I even found the non-seafood items enjoyable. Service and staff were very friendly. Even when they could tell we were "Not from around here, Are you?" Local is best.

Notably good service experience

Amazing atmosphere followed by the freshest seafood. I head of this restaurant through Conte Nast Magazine where they rated it one of 80 great new restaurants from Bues Aires to Zurnirch. It truly lived up to the hype. The menu is huge, with creative dishes as lobster mac and cheese. Just wonderful.
