Dr. Kelly Joice earned a double major in Organismal Biology and Psychology from the University of Kansas, before continuing her education at the University of Oklahoma, College of Dentistry. She completed her Doctorate of Dental Surgery, with honors, including awards in pediatric and restorative dentistry in 2004. Following graduation, she went on to work in public healthcare with the Indian Health Service in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Joice is continually updating her dental skills and knowledge, and has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education, including certification in Short Term Adult Orthodontics. She is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, the American Dental Association, the Kansas Dental Association and the Douglas County Dental Society.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals have an unfair reputation for being painful. This may have been true in the past, but modern anesthetics mean that today’s root canals are comfortable. In fact, a root canal can be the best way to permanently stop the pain of an infected or damaged tooth.

Periodontics

Deep Cleaning
Our team goes beneath your gum line during a deep cleaning to sanitize any pockets that have formed. This treatment will help to stop gum loss and resolve infection.

Prosthodontics

Dentures
These dentures are delivered as soon as the remaining non-restorable teeth are removed. They serve as a bandage to the sockets and help in controlling the bleeding. For the next 24 hours do not remove the dentures from your mouth. Apply firm pressure by biting on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes following the appointment. You may have to repeat this several times. You may apply cold pack externally to control bleeding and swelling. Your immediate dentures will contain the swelling. Take the prescribed pain medication and antibiotics. Do not rinse your mouth vigorously. Restrict your diet to soft and cold foods. It is normal to see your pillow stained with blood. Do not panic. The following morning gently rinse your mouth.

Implants

Dental Implants
Many patients suffer from some degree of bone loss. Your teeth and gums are supported by underlying bone, and this bone can undergo resorption over time. Dental implants require healthy bone for anchoring, so bone loss can be a major impediment to receiving implants.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
PAIN: Unfortunately most oral surgery is accompanied by some degree of discomfort. Remember that the most severe pain is usually within six hours after the local anesthetic wears off; after that your need for medicine should lessen.
Tooth Extractions
After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That’s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. You may have to do this several times. If bleeding still persists, biting on a moist tea bag wrapped in gauze may help control the oozing from the surgical site. Tea has an ingredient that promotes blood clotting.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is a solution for bone loss. Our expert dentists can provide bone grafting to give you the bone quality you need for dental implants. We’ll be with you every step of the way, from treatment planning to healing.
