Dental Examination

Examination of dental x-rays: Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
Gingivitis, and no damage has been done, one to two regular cleanings will be recommended. You will also be given instructions on improving your daily oral hygiene habits and having regular dental cleanings.

Dental Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. Sealants can protect teeth from decay for many years, but need to be checked for wear and chipping at regular dental visits.

Fillings
A silver amalgam filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a silver filling.
Veneers
Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. Crowns
Dental crowns are a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A dental crown protects and strengthens the tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
Gingivoplasty (soft tissue recontouring) – As gums recede due to periodontitis, the teeth may appear longer; causing a “toothy” smile. Dr. Francis can remove tissues or straighten the gum line to make the teeth look more even.
Deep Cleaning

Tooth Extractions
Third molars, commonly referred to as wisdom teeth generally, appear between the ages of 17 to 25; and most people need wisdom teeth extraction. In most cases, inadequate space in the mouth does not allow the wisdom teeth to erupt properly and become fully functional. When this happens, the tooth can become impacted (stuck) in an undesirable or potentially harmful position. If left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth can contribute to infection, and damage to other teeth.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting – Dental implants can only be positioned if there is sufficient bone to attach the prosthetic tooth to. If bone loss has occurred, bone grafting is an excellent way to add or “grow” bone so that an implant may be properly secured.

Orthodontics
What is Orthodontics? Orthodontics is specifically concerned with diagnosing and treating tooth misalignment and irregularity in the jaw area.
Invisalign Orthodontics
For a more discrete look, Invisalign are designed to be hidden. The aligner trays are made from BPA-free (bisphenol A: Exposure can have certain dreadful health effects on everything from brain to the prostate) plastics that are clear. They are worn over the teeth and gently move them into alignment over time.
Braces
Fixed orthodontic braces – A metal or ceramic dental base is affixed to each tooth, and a dental wire is inserted through each base. The teeth are gradually trained into proper alignment by regularly adjusting the wire. When the desired results are achieved, the fixed dental braces are completely removed.
