General Info

The Hallowell Center offers mental health diagnostic and treatment services for patients and families. Founded in 1996, it provides a range of medication and counseling support services for children and adults suffering with mental disorders. The center specializes in neuropsychological testing and diagnosis, career development, academic tutoring and placement and coaching services. The Hallowell Center offers individual and group therapy. It has a staff of trained and certified doctors who provide treatment for bi-polar, mood and stress disorders, as well as depression, dyslexia and speech and language dysfunction. The Hallowell Center

Neurology
The tests take about 6-8 hours to complete and do not involve any invasive procedures. The testing report, which takes a few weeks to write, will help confirm or clarify diagnosis, identify strengths and weaknesses, document changes in intellectual functioning, provide recommendations for compensatory strategies and may indicate referral to specialists in education, neurology, psychiatry or psychotherapy.
Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that can cause significant social, communication and behavior challenges. ASD begins in early childhood and eventually causes problems functioning socially, in school and at work. Our neuropsychologists can test for autism spectrum disorders if that is a specific question. We have clinicians trained to work with higher level autism spectrum disorders.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
This month for our meet our staff, we are featuring Marcia. Marcia is a trained and licensed social worker who provides supportive counseling and coaching to parents whose children, teens, and young adults have ADHD and other emotional and behavioral challenges. Working collaboratively with other clinicians and specialists, both inside and outside the Center, she crafts strategies to reduce the conflict and chaos, and improve the communication and success in the home and school environment. Additionally, Marcia runs the parent support groups at the Center for parents whose children pose unique challenges. She received her Masters in Social Work at Columbia University and has been a practicing social worker for 25 years. Marcia is also certified as an ADHD parent coach by the ADHD Parent Coach Academy, and as a parent coach by the Parent Coaching Institute, PCI.
Depression
Mental Health
People with panic disorder have sudden and repeated attacks of fear that can occur at any time and last for several minutes or more. These panic attacks are characterized by a fear of disaster or of losing control even when there is no real danger. People experiencing a panic attack may feel anxious and overwhelmed. Some may experience a pounding or racing heart, sweating, chills, chest pains, dizziness, or nausea. Left untreated, panic disorder can lower your quality of life because it may lead to other fears and mental health disorders, problems at work or school, and social isolation.
