Maria Lyall received her undergraduate degree in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1980. She worked as a practice administrator & consultant for physician offices for 12 to 13 years before pursuing graduate training. She received her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from ODU in 1995. Maria has extensive experience in all aspects of outpatient physical therapy including: manual therapy, myofascial release, sports injury rehabilitation, geriatrics, women’s health, and stroke rehabilitation. Her personal interests include exercise, yoga, music, literature, and cooking. She is also bilingual in Russian.
Emergency Care
Mike was born in Bangkok, Thailand but has resided in Virginia since 1971. He began working in healthcare after high school when he became employed by Portsmouth General Hospital as an emergency room technician, while also attending Old Dominion University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Mike enrolled as a graduate student at Old Dominion, while continuing to work in the emergency room and as a graduate research assistant in the biotechnology department. After graduating with a Master of Science in Biology, Mike worked for LifeNet. There, he processed many of the grafts that are used in orthopaedic surgery today.In 2001 Mike graduated from the inaugural Master of Physician Assistant program at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Upon graduation, he received the Eugene Stead Jr. Award. Mike is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Whether it is running, lifting weights, or playing basketball, he enjoys working out! Having experienced two knee surgeries and an Achilles tendon repair by Dr. Wardell, he understands the need and desire for people to get back to an active lifestyle. He has been working with Dr. Wardell since 2001. Mike and his wife Traci reside in Suffolk and have three children.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Diana has over 19 years in the Medical community having worked in executive offices within Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) while attending college. While working for EVMS, she was involved with special projects such as the initial structure of the Physician Assistant program for the medical school. Diana is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. She then went to Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she graduated with a M.S. in Physician Assistant in 2006, and also received the EVMS Paragon Award that same year. Diana has recently been a lecturer at EVMS with topics in Gynecology as well as in Orthopaedics. Diana is board certified with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is a member of The American Academy of Physician Assistants, as well as The Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants.

Afterwards, he completed his residency training in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Larkin Community Hospital. In addition to Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), he is trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound and interventional pain injections. With this skillset he brings a personalized, patient-centered approach to managing chronic pain and orthopedic injuries. He takes pride in his osteopathic training and is guided by the principle that the body is capable of self-healing. He uses a hands-on approach in assessing his patients and encourages them to be an active member of the treatment team.

Peyton’s interest in physical therapy began at an early age with playing year round soccer. She grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia and later moved to Conway, Arkansas to play Division I soccer for the University of Central Arkansas. She graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. Peyton then moved back to the East Coast to pursue her doctorate degree. She graduated from Elon University with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2020. Her outpatient clinical experiences include general orthopedics, neuro, and sports medicine. Peyton is looking forward to further developing her manual therapy skills. She enjoys working with people of all ages. During her free time, Peyton enjoys spending time with family, running, and taking long walks on the beach to look for sea glass.
Physical Therapy
Jake Gomoke is a long-term resident of the Hampton Roads area. After graduating with honors from Roanoke College and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1997, he immediately enrolled in the physical therapy program at Old Dominion University. In 1999, he completed a Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree. While his primary focus has been orthopaedics, he worked for eight years in a multidisciplinary clinic with a wide variety of patients requiring physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. Jake joined Harbour Rehabilitation in 2007. He is certified in a manual technique for soft tissue myofascial mobilization that implements beveled edged tools, known as Graston. However, his primary focus is on Strain Counterstrain (SCS), a technique for which he became the first board certified practitioner in the state of Virginia in 2009. In addition to traditional Strain Counterstrain treatment techniques, Jake is studying the newly-emerging Fascial Strain Counterstrain treatment techniques, since its’ availability in 2010. He continues to travel the country assisting in labs and lectures of these continually-evolving treatments.
Manual Therapy
Craig D. Allen, P.T., A.T., M.D.T., is a 1988 honors graduate from Old Dominion University. Immediately following graduation, Craig served as a Physical Therapist in the United States Army Specialist Corp. He spent 2 years at the World Famous Burn Unit in San Antonio, Texas, and 2 years in Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the 101st Air Assault. During his duty in Kentucky, Craig obtained his certifications in Athletic Training and Strength and Conditioning. He worked with various sports teams at Austin Peay State University and with the American Volleyball Professionals. He was Honorably Discharged as a Captain in 1993 and moved to Chesapeake where he resides today. While in the Army, Craig received several awards to include The Meritorious Service Award and Combat Casualty Care Leadership Award. In 1997, Craig passed the McKenzie Specialization Certification Exam for the spine. Craig has worked side by side with Dr. Wardell for the past 20 years. Together, they have brought the Spinal Decompression Therapy and Laser Services to the Hampton Roads Area. Craig has lectured professionally around the United States on “Rehabilitation of the Spine” and wrote articles for Synergy Therapeutic Services in the late 1990’s. He is currently married and has 3 children. Hobbies include coaching Junior Olympic volleyball, training his yellow lab, woodworking and designing/building outdoor creations. Craig utilizes a hands-on manual therapy approach involving myofascial release, myostretching, spinal manipulation, Jin Shin Do accupressure and Graston technique.
